TAXCO
PROGRAM: THE CITY OF GOLD AND SILVER
GRADE: ELEMENTARY-JR HIGH-HIGH SCHOOL
JUSTIFICATION:
"There are cities that grow in green valleys, they are cities of flock. Taxco is a city of goats, climbing on magical rocks from which, suddenly, water flows in excess. But the magical mountain on which Taxco is built also has other powers: inside it and its surroundings is silver. The "Lord of the waters" of the ancient Mexicans became the "Lord of the silver" of the New Mexicans. Thus, water and silver, life and wealth, are the gifts of Taxco."
Through this day proposed by Centros Ecoclub, students will be able to approach the beautiful city of Taxco in a totally new way.
Playful-pedagogical activities (which allow the student to become an investigator-adventurer) will reveal the origins of the city and its glorious past; the thought of the colonial era through the baroque forms of the Parish of Santa Prisca; the daily urban life of New Spain in the streets, squares, fountains, washrooms and "humilladeros"; the mastery of artisan work in silver, which day by day comes to life in the magical hands of local artisans, imbued with great skill.
Without a doubt, to experience Taxco is to become aware of the fundamental role of the mines as suppliers of an artistic and economic magnificence during the Viceroyalty.
